Let’s get real. Hiking is enjoyable and gratifying. But it can also be extremely treacherous. Personally, it helps to know there is something special waiting for us at the end. Making the whole trip worth it. There are a few simple steps we follow to ensure happy hiking. These are the tips that keep us motivated, comfortable and satisfied at the end of a long hike.
How do you treat yourself at the end of a long hike? Let us know in the comments below! 👇
Hike to a View
We are lucky to live in British Columbia. Almost every hike we choose ends with an extraordinary view. And the view is always worth the effort.
Take a look at the trails near your home. Try to find a hike that leads you to water, a valley or a mountain range. Hikes with a view tend to be more challenging. But the reward is always greater and it will give you more motivation to keep on going.
Wear Proper Clothing
You may be sweating up a storm on your hike, but it is important to remember that it won’t last. Once you are done your hike you are likely to cool off quickly and need some extra warmth. In order to be comfortable after a hike, ensure you dress in layers. Wear multiple layers of moisture-wicking shirts and bring along a lightweight fleece sweater or jacket.
If you are able to stay warm after your hike, you will be more likely to stick around, enjoy the view and reap the benefits of all your hard work.
Bring Extra Shoes
Consider packing along an extra pair of lightweight shoes.
Think about how satisfying it is to take your ski boots off after a day of skiing. It is much the same when hiking.
After a long hike, you may have the desire to remove your hot, heavy hiking boots. Having an extra pair of comfortable shoes will allow you to do this. Taking off your hiking boots will help you to relax and encourage you to rest.
Get Comfortable
Who says you can’t be comfortable outside?
We like to carry a picnic blanket or lightweight camping chairs on day hikes. This way, we have a nice place to sit down and relax for as long as we like. After climbing a mountain or hiking to a remote lake, we want to stay and enjoy the experience. If we are comfortable, we are more likely to stick around for awhile.
Remember, hiking isn’t just about the activity itself. It’s about experiencing and enjoying life and the beauty of nature. Take your time, breathe it in and get comfortable.

Pack Along a Sweet Treat
We admit that we are very food motivated. When I am in the middle of an uphill hike, huffing and puffing and wondering why I am doing this, I think about the treats I brought along and get to enjoy at the end. Hey, it works, what can I say!
Andy and I have been following a keto lifestyle for about two years now. We honestly owe all of our extra energy to this way of eating. It keeps us focused, determined and active. The glaring issue is that it is very difficult to find convenient snack options that are keto-friendly. And since we are always on the road or out camping and hiking, we are always looking for low carb treats. Traditional snacks and protein bars are loaded with sugar, which leads to an inevitable sugar crash. This does not help maintain our energy levels for outdoor activity.
A sweet treat to motivate your feet.
So we were absolutely thrilled when we found the Lenny & Larry’s Keto Cookie™ – an easy-to-pack, delicious, sweet-tasting treat that provides a plant-based protein at only 3g of net carbs per cookie!
What we love most about this product is that it offers us a plant-based source of protein. Following a keto lifestyle is very meat-heavy. For health and ethical reasons, we try to seek out vegan options as much as possible. It has proven to be a very difficult task. But Lenny & Larry’s Keto Cookie makes it easy for us with a convenient source of plant-based protein.
And you know what else? You do not have to follow a keto lifestyle to enjoy these cookies! Because they are high in protein (8g per serving), high in fiber (5g per serving), grain and gluten-free, plant-based, and non-GMO project verified, they fit into so many lifestyles. They are the perfect snack for anyone looking for a treat that will not throw them off their routine.
If you have followed along on our journey, you know we have been traveling around North America in our SUV camper. Of course, as all road trippers know, Walmart is an extremely valuable resource. Not only for their huge variety of products but for their other amenities like public washrooms, water fountains and overnight friendly parking. And it just so happens that Lenny & Larry’s Keto Cookies are easily available at all Walmart locations. We buy them in 4 packs or 12 packs to keep in our camper and our day hiking backpacks. They are also available at Sprouts and Whole Foods. You can easily find who is selling these treats near you through Lenny & Larry’s retail locator.
We know you guys are going to love Lenny & Larry’s Keto Cookies. Each cookie comes individually packaged which means quick, pre-portioned deliciousness on the go. Grab one for your commute to work. Pack them in your gym bag for a post-workout energy kick. Throw a few in your purse for the mid-afternoon craving fix.
You can check out their new plant-based protein keto cookies here. You’ll love their flavour options – chocolate chip, peanut butter and coconut. 🤤
Bring Along Some Entertainment
We like to take our time and truly enjoy a hike. Because we typically hike toward a destination or a view, we savor the experience and will spend a good part of the day there.
To help us appreciate the moment, we always bring along some entertainment. We will pack a book with us or a portable speaker for music. This helps to relax us while truly taking in the moment.
Or, if we are feeling extra energetic, we will pack a frisbee. It’s super easy to carry along in our day pack. We find it really adds to the enjoyment of the day.
Another thing we will often bring along is binoculars. Since moving to Western Canada, we have noticed there are so many unique birds and animals to this area. We are constantly keeping our eyes open for signs of animals nearby. Having binoculars with us has turned us into amateur bird-watchers and has allowed us to appreciate nature on a different level.
